Time Out

I have eaten rice at each of my three meals today - Japanese rice with sauteed fish (I don't know what type of fish and I didn't ask) at breakfast, sticky rice with shrimp and basil leaves at lunch, and white rice with seafood for dinner. Can you imagine?

I'm staying in tonight. I'll meet one of my sister's friends, who is visiting from Alaska with her daughter, for dinner tomorrow night. Definitely no rice! There is an extremely wide range of green (and other colors) vegetables here.

Jen, rice and shrimp at breakfast – this is a radical departure from your regimen.
I read somewhere that the cost of rice in Thailand (and throughout Asia) has doubled since the last two months and a shortage is imminent. So, in the coming days you could see smaller portions and not has often.

Keep the faith,

Hey David:

In the US breakfast is cereal and bread/bagel and coffee/tea. So no, I would not have rice and shrimp for breakfast.

In most Asian countries however, breakfast is a major meal with meats, rice, miso soup, salad fixings, etc. I generally had miso soup with tofu, seaweed, and mushrooms then a rice dish. I was usually full until lunch time.
